Sanke have a white base with red and black markings. They’re one of the ‘big three’ koi varieties and are a firm favourite in ponds and shows. A good Sanke has clean, balanced colour and a strong presence.
Selection is centred on clarity and control across all three colours. Shiroji must be clean and consistent, with hi providing the primary structure of the pattern. Sumi is assessed for placement and quality, ensuring it enhances rather than overwhelms the overall balance.
We prioritise koi where the sumi sits cleanly on the body without disrupting the flow of the hi pattern. This allows the fish to maintain definition as it matures.
Body shape is selected to support long-term development, ensuring the koi carries proportion and presence as it grows.
This is a refined variety, and the focus is on Sanke that hold their balance and improve over time.
