Tamasaba

Tamasaba are one of the rarest goldfish you can buy in the UK. They come from Japan, and most people have never even heard of them.

They're a Japanese fancy goldfish, not a koi, but they sit comfortably alongside koi in a pond and are looked after in the same way. The body is round and egg-shaped, with a single flowing tail fin. Tama means round, saba means mackerel. That pretty much covers it.

They've got a long history in Japan, particularly in the Yamagata region, where breeders have been producing them for generations. Outside of Japan they're still rare, and in the UK, finding quality tamasaba for sale is not straightforward.

Every fish has been sourced directly from Japanese breeders. They're hardy, handle cold water well, and do fine in a pond alongside koi. If you want something most people won't have seen before, you're in the right place.
