Kohaku are the most traditional koi – white body with strong red markings. Simple, clean, and timeless. Every serious koi keeper starts with a good Kohaku. They’re easy to appreciate and always in demand.
Selection is built around the fundamentals that define quality Kohaku. Shiroji must be clean and bright, with no yellowing or inconsistency, providing a strong base for the pattern to sit on. Hi quality is assessed for depth, evenness, and edge definition, ensuring it holds as the fish develops.
Pattern balance is a key focus. Each koi is chosen for how the hi flows across the body, with placement that carries weight from head through to tail without breaking or crowding.
Body conformation is equally important, with preference given to koi that will maintain structure and improve with growth rather than lose proportion.
This is a variety where small differences separate average from high quality. The focus here is on Kohaku that will hold their finish over time.
