Gary has been keeping koi for many years, and through running his own YouTube channel, getting involved in the trade was always the goal. After meeting Ryan and Kevin and joining them on a buying trip to Japan in January 2025, a job opportunity came up – and he grabbed it with both hands.

This is Gary's first professional role in the koi industry, and he's thrown himself into learning every aspect of the business. One of the things he enjoys most is watching new stock arrive and seeing those fish grow and develop into their full potential, picking up on the styles and patterns as they progress.

Gary's first trip to Japan was something special. It kicked off at the AJKS – the best koi in the world, all under one roof – before heading into the mountains of Niigata, visiting farm after farm. Going round picking koi alongside Ryan, being involved in selecting tosai and nisai stock first-hand, was an experience he won't forget in a hurry.
